Activities
In a class taught by my current supervisor (Dr. Sakurai), I gave a talk to fourth-year students about how to write graduation theses.
-
I was invited by the international exchange committee of the Japanese Society for Environmental Education to give a talk about feeding for squirrels, focusing on education and science communication. I also met squirrels in Obihiro.
-
I was invited to give a lecture at the “Lively People and Animals Symposium” hosted by Tennoji Zoo, where I gave a serious talk on feeding.
-
I conducted a survey and public lecture on Erabu flying foxes on the Tokara Islands (Akuseki-jima and Taira-jima). Owing to the efforts of the Erabu Elderly Group, it seems that local people are starting to recognize endangered bats.
-
I did three weeks of fieldwork along the Mekong River from the north (Xieng Khouang) to the south (Khong Island) of Lao PDR, with the members of ASAFAS in Kyoto University. I could meet squirrel-like creatures, tree shrews.
-
I visited the UK to understand various “urban rewildling” activities and research. I could also meet puffins, which were the best birds I had wanted to meet.
-
Kansai TV also featured us. Since foxes are an endangered species in Osaka, I hope we can create urban environments where they can live.
-
After setting camera traps on campus, we photographed foxes and raccoon dogs in our urbanized OIC campus. The “OIC fox” was broadcast nationwide via the NHK.
-
I joined a family event to find wild mammals with camera traps, in collaboration with the Center for Diversity and the Expo Commemorative Park Nature Observation Learning Center.
-
In collaboration with Oji Zoo, we organized a squirrel-themed event. The children made “gnaw-mark” keychains. One child drew sushi together with the squirrels.
-
I participated in a career support event at Toyo University’s SPRING program.
-
I participated in a lecture organized by the Museum ESD study group. It was a valuable learning experience for me as well.
